US Army Garrison-Michigan Child and Youth Services (CYS) is proud to offer this great program in our community!

Army Child & Youth Services has introduced SKIESUnlimited, a ground breaking instructional program initiative designed as a global instructional program. Each Army community can benefit from this new SKIESUnlimited initiative.

SKIESUnlimited encompasses instructional programs for children and youth from infancy to adolescence, i.e., four weeks through the end of their senior year in high school. SKIESUnlimited provides the organizational umbrella for all instructional programming in the CYS System.

SKIESUnlimited has a four-school system. The four schools are: School of Sports, School of Arts, School of Life Skills and School of Academic Skills. Through SKIESUnlimited, children and youth in Child Development Services (CDS), School Age Services (SAS), Middle School and Teen (MS&T), and Outreach Services (OS) Programs will have equal access to opportunities to expand their knowledge, be inspired, explore, and acquire skills.

BRAC CLOSURE

Child and Youth Services is subject to the BRAC closure, though
many of the services will be transitioning to the new Center at the Detroit Arsenal.
This transition will occur on or before 15 September 2008.

Young people spend as much as 8o% of their waking time outside the classroom. When involved in instructional programs during the critical hours of 3 - 8 PM, they are less likely to engage in undesirable behavior. Children and youth participate in instructional programs for a variety of reasons: to explore new skills, to pursue and nurture personal interests, to interact socially- with others, to build a resume, to bolster a college application, or to foster a close relationship with caring, knowledgeable adults outside of home.

Instructional programs foster the development of critical life, leadership, and social skills. The latest educational research confirms that students' involvement in after-school instructional programs is beneficial on all levels. Instructional programs have been shown to promote the intellectual development of children and youth.
