ROBOT TROT A HIT WITH RUNNERS & WALKERS
Robotic Systems Hosts 1st Annual 5k Run/Walk at
Selfridge ANGB
More than 130 enthusiastic runners & walkers gathered at
Selfridge Air National Guard Base’s (SANGB) on the beautiful
morning of Friday, July 31st to participate in
the first annual “Robot Trot 5K”.
The top-notch team at the Robotic Systems Joint Project
Office put their creative spin on organizing this 5K
Run/Walk and hosted a tremendously successful event
presented by Central Macomb Community Credit Union.
The first annual Robot Trot event, which was open to all
military and civilian runners and walkers (and their family
members) - regardless of the branch of service, office or
location proved to be a competitive yet friendly-bonding
event.
“As a veteran runner, I was thrilled with the great
turn-out for “Robot Trot” and was supported by many key
organizations including the 127th WG SFS and the
Fire Station” said Mr. Doug Edwards of Joint Robotics Repair
and Fielding (JRRF) and Robot Trot organizer.
A mere 18 minutes and 37 seconds after the start, just
outside of Mulligan’s Restaurant & Banquet Center, Mr.
Andrew Cusmano crossed the finish line followed by both
military and civilian runners and walkers from Selfridge and
TACOM.
The top finishers for the Women’s division (in order) were
Ms. Heather Dougherty, Ms. Ashley Wasnoer and Ms. Vickie Van
Coppenolle;
For the Men, the top finishers were Mr. Cusmano, Mr.
Kirtley Winston and Mr. Adam Treaster. Each received
medals for first, second, and third place, as well as gift
certificates donated by Hanson’s Running Shop.
Mrs. Katrina Peplinski of the Robotics Systems Joint Project
Office commented that “it was a tremendous thrill to see
such enthusiastic participation by members of the Army, the
Air Force, the Marines, the Dept. of Army and the Civilians
and the spirit was fantastic.”
In addition to Central Macomb Community Credit Union and
Hanson’s Running Shop, Robot Trot Partners included
Pepperidge Farms Outlet Store of St. Clair Shores, Absopure
Water Co., All-American Screen Printing and Embroidery and
Kroger.
FMWR’s Recreation, as well as Marketing & Sponsorship
Divisions at the US Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal, along
with Mulligan’s of SANGB assisted the RS-JPO and JRRF in the
planning process, organization and on operations event day.
Those interested in participating in the Second Annual Robot
Trot 5K Run/Walk should mark their calendars for Friday,
July 30th, 2010 – and start training! |
