Educational training programs are developed to assist individuals in gaining knowledge during the five life cycle stages and relate financial tasks to these stages in order to plan for financial security.
Stage 1 A time when individuals are just starting out on their own (their first real job, graduation from high school or off to college, their own apartment, a car)
Stage 2 The household and job are somewhat established. Added responsibilities are beginning to occur; marriage, arrival of children, obtaining credit (department store credit cards, used/new automobile loan), and insurance options (auto, life, renters, and home).
Stage 3 The household has acquired some maturity and money management skills.  Individuals are feeling a need to plan for the future (children’s college, property taxes, investments, retirement plans, and wills)
Stage 4 Generally, the children have all left the home, families are making maximum dollars with a strong emphasis on maximizing savings, investments, protecting their assets, changing their lifestyles, and determining future housing needs.
Stage 5 The household is experienced in the “game of life” and can adapt plans or changes as needed.  Important consideration is being placed on extended illness, potential death of a spouse, retirement, converting investments, adjusting lifestyle to a fixed income, and health care costs
