| The Family Advocacy
Program at the U.S. Army Garrison Selfridge offers Prevention
and Education training in the areas of Child abuse/Neglect and
Spouse Abuse. The Family Advocacy Program is more than an
intervention program. It is a program designed to assist units,
service members, retirees, and family members with solutions to
Domestic Violence problems which may arise within the military
community. The
following workshops are offered in an effort to maintain a sound
quality of life in the U.S. Army Garrison Selfridge community:

Change Management - This workshop is about managing and coping with organizational
changes and transition in the workplace.
·
Stress Management - gives individual and group guidance in dealing with pressures
that occur in everyday life.
·
Pre-deployment and Reunion briefings
- These briefings are designed to give soldiers and their family
members an overview of resources that are available both on and
off base to assist them in both emergency and non-emergency
situations.
·
Domestic Violence Awareness
- A workshop that offers insight into the problem of domestic
violence.
·
Child Abuse - Prevention and education training is offered as a means of
bringing more awareness and understanding to this problem in our
society.
·
Communication - Individual interpersonal skills as a means of helping couples to
relate better to each other are taught in this workshop.
·
Dating Violence - A seminar that offers awareness of the problem of dating
violence to young people, ways of preventing this problem, and
resources that are available both on and off base.
·
Rape
and Sexual Assault
- Presentations that address prevention, education, reporting,
coping with, and also resources available in the community for
the problem of rape and sexual assault.
·
Conflict Resolution - A workshop that provides training in the areas of
learning to settle disagreements peacefully.
·
Parenting Seminars - Seminars that assist parents in child rearing and dealing
with common problems that may arise during this process.
·
Systematic Training For Effective Parenting (STEP)
- The purpose of this workshop is to offer information and
guidance on the long-term goals of parenting, and provide skills
that can increase enjoyment and effectiveness as a parent.
·
Anger Management - Training to assist individuals to recognize the causes of anger
and deal with it in a positive manner.
*These workshops can be
presented to small or large groups.
**Any one of these
workshops will meet the annual requirement for troop education
training.

Additional Services:
Transitional Compensation Services, Victim Advocacy Services (In
Partnership with Turning Point, a shelter and agency for victims
of domestic violence and their children).
Baby Bundles:
FAP, the Community Health Nurse, and other community agencies
will provide baby bundles consisting of basic essentials for
newborns on the installation.
